Happy Black History Month! We are excited to join our community in celebrating Black movers and makers as part of a sustained effort to recognize the central role Black people have played throughout history and to this day.
Black people are standing in their power more and more every day, and it’s a beautiful thing.
At Vuori, we value adventure and passion. We want Black people to have the confidence and freedom to seek out adventure, to march into the wild with their fists held high and their heads held higher, because the outdoors should be for everyone.
This month, as part of our commitment to support the work of nonprofits dedicated to creating equality, equity, and diversity in outdoor spaces, we want to highlight three organizations that are making history every day.
Outdoor Afro is a passionate non-profit organization with a mission to connect Black people with the outdoors, reimagine Blackness in the outdoors, and protect wild places for long-term sustainability. Outdoor Afro’s social channels are changing the narrative of what it looks like to enjoy the outdoors. Through stories and photos, they paint a colorful picture of all shapes, sizes, colors, and walks of life enjoying nature. Check out how you can help support Outdoor Afro in their mission.
Black Girls RUN! is out to create a movement that inspires movement in all women, especially Black women. Our society is under the misconception that Black girls don’t run. Through resources and events, they seek to inspire women to lead active and healthy lives. Donations to the BGR! Foundation helps support the Black Girls RUN! community and provide programming that empowers women to live healthier, more active lifestyles.
Evelynn Escobar-Thomas, the founder of Hike Clerb, was concerned about the lack of representation of people of color in the outdoors, and she set out to make a change. Hike Clerb provides a safe space and community for womxn of color to enjoy hiking and exploring some of California's wild spaces. Donations help this non-profit equip womxn of color with the tools, resources, and experiences they need to enjoy the healing powers of nature.
